What are the best Hifz books? What are the best books you can read on memorising the Qur'ān? In the Hifz community groups, we often find messages being shared about your favourite Hifz books. And given that I recently spoke about the impact of reading books on your memory, I deem it appropriate to share with you a list of your favourite Hifz books.
The Promise of Ten
The Promise of Ten book takes you through how I began my journey to memorise the Qur’ān. What happened, what I did, and all I had to go through. The book is relevant not only to Ḥifẓ but to life too as I gathered key lessons from my journey.
I wrote the book in 2015 after being asked a question on Twitter about my journey. It wasn't something that I planned to do. I set a date and quickly put something together and released it. Other books were supposed to be released instead. You can read them here: "25 Methods" and "How We Memorised The Quran".
I'll probably make updates to this soon and look forward to releasing new works, in shā' Allāh. I'll also need a way to move away from Amazon. If you want to learn about them first, make sure you join the Diary of A Hāfiz where I share content weekly.
The Crowning Venture
Hāfiza Dr Saadia Mian wrote this wonderful piece of work to inspire women in particular as it takes inspiration from women who memorised the Qur'ān. This book took me back to my days of memorisation in the UK and Cairo. So too my studies with Shuyūkh from Damascus. It was as though I was hearing myself speaking.
A key highlight for me is the stories of success, determination, and sheer persistence. The 'stories that weren't' section in this book is also great to see. In my journey, I had been discouraged many times but kept on going which is something you find consistently in many Hifz journeys. This book represents stories of women who are rarely spoken of and highlights issues that are hardly spoken about. This book confirms the many things I've been sharing with you over the years and is highly recommended. There's also a Journal and Planner that's available now too.
How Do You Memorise The Glorious Quran?
Back in 2014 I translated and commented on part of this work by Dr. Yahya Al-Ghawthānī but recently this was translated by Sharif H. Banna with Claritas Books. This is one of the first books I read in Arabic on the topic. It covers:
- the why
- the principles
- 25 methods
- revision and consolidation
- advice and recommendations
This again comes highly recommended.
114 Tips to Help You Finally Memorize the Quran
Again this book is one that I've seen mentioned often in the community.
365 Tips to Help You Memorise the Quran
Qari Ishaq Jasat wrote a similar-to-the-point book that takes a day-to-day approach for anyone doing Hifz. You can read a tip per day. The book covers:

- inspirational advice from the past
- how to choose a school and teacher
- Tajweed and reflection
- diet, memory, and revision methods
- utilising support, resources, and technology
- Ramadan tips
- Quranic du'ā's
- life after memorising Qur'ān
Another one that is worth looking at especially coupled with the 365 tips to help you teach the Qur'ān.
Recite and Rise Up: Inspirational Hifdh Stories
Released around the same year I started sharing content, Bilal Elsakka, does a brilliant job capturing different stories from young and old. I have also shared stories from this collection. Another recommended read.
Mawlana Muhammad Saleem Dhorat wrote an excellent piece of work that covers the basics, and motivation coupled with simple and effective formulas.
Causes That Aid In The Memorization Of The Qur’an
Shaykh Mahmood al-Misri (Abu ‘Ammar) wrote an amazing work that covers hadith, and practical pointers. Another one that is commonly read in the community.
I Wanna Be A Hafidha Too
A free e-book that highlights exceptional women and female scholars with exclusive interviews. This is another great contribution.
A Guide to Memorising the Quran
This is another book that is often come across in the community by Shaykh Nagib Khan. This book is a short useful guide on methods.
If you have other books to add to this list, let me know!
