The Best Books On Memorising The Qur'an

What are the best Hifz books? What are the best books you can read on memorising the Qur'ān? In the Hifz community groups, we often find messages being shared about your favourite Hifz books. And given that I recently spoke about the impact of reading books on your memory, I deem it appropriate to share with you a list of your favourite Hifz books.

The Promise of Ten

The Promise of Ten book takes you through how I began my journey to memorise the Qur’ān. What happened, what I did, and all I had to go through. The book is relevant not only to Ḥifẓ but to life too as I gathered key lessons from my journey.

Promise of Ten Book

I wrote the book in 2015 after being asked a question on Twitter about my journey. It wasn't something that I planned to do. I set a date and quickly put something together and released it. Other books were supposed to be released instead. You can read them here: "25 Methods" and "How We Memorised The Quran".

I'll probably make updates to this soon and look forward to releasing new works, in shā' Allāh. I'll also need a way to move away from Amazon. If you want to learn about them first, make sure you join the Diary of A Hāfiz where I share content weekly.

The Crowning Venture

Hāfiza Dr Saadia Mian wrote this wonderful piece of work to inspire women in particular as it takes inspiration from women who memorised the Qur'ān. This book took me back to my days of memorisation in the UK and Cairo. So too my studies with Shuyūkh from Damascus. It was as though I was hearing myself speaking.

Crowning Venture

A key highlight for me is the stories of success, determination, and sheer persistence. The 'stories that weren't' section in this book is also great to see. In my journey, I had been discouraged many times but kept on going which is something you find consistently in many Hifz journeys. This book represents stories of women who are rarely spoken of and highlights issues that are hardly spoken about. This book confirms the many things I've been sharing with you over the years and is highly recommended. There's also a Journal and Planner that's available now too.

How Do You Memorise The Glorious Quran?

dr yahya al ghawthani

Back in 2014 I translated and commented on part of this work by Dr. Yahya Al-Ghawthānī but recently this was translated by Sharif H. Banna with Claritas Books. This is one of the first books I read in Arabic on the topic. It covers:

  • the why
  • the principles
  • 25 methods
  • revision and consolidation
  • advice and recommendations

This again comes highly recommended.

A Guide to Memorising the Quran

This is another book that is often come across in the community by Shaykh Nagib Khan. This book is a short useful guide on methods.

There are many other books like Memorize Quran, Hifz Memorization of the Quran by Dr Safwat M Halilovic, 12 Practical Points, and others. I have also looked at Tajweed books and other resources.

If you have other books to add to this list, let me know!

May Allāh grant us blessing and success.
